You Added a Red Dot.
Now What?

You did everything right. You researched your optic. You mounted it. You went to the range — and you put the dot on the target and pulled the trigger.

The bullet didn't go where the dot was. Maybe it was low. Maybe it was off to the side. Maybe it was inconsistent shot to shot and you had no idea why.

"Most new red dot shooters assume the dot is automatically accurate. It's not — and nobody tells you that until you've already wasted ammo and gotten frustrated."

The truth is: a red dot optic must be zeroed before it reliably shows you where your bullet will go. The dot is just a reference point — it doesn't know where your barrel is pointed until you set that relationship up.

This course gives you the exact process to do that right — the first time.

This Course Is Built For You If…

Everything You Need.
Nothing You Don't.

Six focused modules take you from "why doesn't this thing work?" to zeroed, confident, and maintaining your accuracy over time.

Module 1

Understanding Red Dots

The foundation every red dot shooter needs — why the dot isn't automatically accurate, and how it actually works.

  • How red dot optics work
  • Red dots vs. iron sights — key differences
  • The big misconception that causes missed shots
Module 2

Equipment & Setup

A complete gear checklist, plus how elevation and windage adjustments move your point of impact.

  • Complete pre-range equipment checklist
  • Why ammo choice affects your zero
  • Understanding elevation and windage
  • + Worksheet 1: Pre-Range Gear Check
Module 3

The Zeroing Process

Two proven methods — one with a bore laser, one without. Step-by-step, from first shot to confirmed zero.

  • Choosing your zero distance (carry vs. range)
  • Method A: Bore laser zero
  • Method B: Live-fire zero (no bore laser)
  • Live fire confirmation protocol
  • + Worksheet 2: Live Fire Zeroing Log
Module 4

The Human Factor

A bad zero is often the shooter, not the gun. Learn to spot and fix the errors that throw off your groups.

  • Why a stable rest is non-negotiable
  • Grip consistency — what it is and why it matters
  • Diagnosing and eliminating recoil anticipation
  • Shooting groups of 5 — how to read your results
  • + Worksheet 3: Human Factor Self-Assessment
Module 5

Confirming & Maintaining Your Zero

A zero that drifts is a zero you can't trust. Learn to keep yours locked in — session after session.

  • Witness marks — what they are and how to use them
  • Ammo consistency and why it matters
  • When (and how) to re-verify your zero
  • The 5-minute quick verification protocol
Module 6

Drills to Stay Sharp

Five practical drills that confirm your zero AND build real shooting skills at the same time.

  • The 5-Shot Grouping Drill (zero confirmation)
  • The Ball and Dummy Drill (cure the flinch)
  • The Dot Drill (multi-distance accuracy)
  • The Blue Tape Drill (find the dot on your target fast)
  • The Draw and Fire Drill (advanced)
  • Your proficiency rating scale (Poor → Best)
  • + Worksheet 4: Session Tracker & Progress Log

Everything In One Place

Founder, True Zero Precision
Formal training at RTSP  ·  Concealed Carry Permit Holder (Multiple States)

This course wasn't built by a military veteran or competition champion. It was built by someone who picked up a handgun just over a year ago, completed formal firearms training at RTSP, earned concealed carry permits in multiple states, and then worked through the red dot learning curve the hard way.

That's the perspective you get here: a beginner who went through the confusion, made the mistakes, tested the methods, and built a repeatable system that works — and who can now show you the exact path to take so you don't have to figure it out from scratch.

If you're new to firearms, or switching from iron sights, this is the course built for exactly where you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any prior shooting experience?
No. This course was designed for beginners and shooters transitioning from iron sights. You should already own a handgun and have a red dot mounted (or be in the process of doing so), but no prior optics experience is required.
Do I need a bore laser?
No. The course covers two zeroing methods — one with a bore laser and one without. A bore laser speeds up the process and is recommended, but it's completely optional. Method B is a live-fire zero: you start at 5 yards so every shot lands on paper, and you need nothing beyond the adjustment tool that came with your optic.
Does it cover co-witnessing my iron sights with the red dot?
No. Zero to Zero is red dot only — both zeroing methods and every drill train you to use the dot, not your iron sights. Zeroing with iron sights and a red dot as co-witnesses is its own subject, planned as a separate add-on module.
What caliber or handgun is this for?
Any semi-automatic handgun with a red dot optic. The zeroing process — distances, groups of 5, the click math — works the same for every caliber. The course's holdover numbers use 9mm as the example; other common pistol calibers land within about half an inch of those numbers out to 25 yards, because at pistol distances the height of your optic over the barrel matters more than the cartridge.
How long will it take to zero my gun after completing the course?
It depends on how far off your optic starts and how steady your fundamentals are, so there's no honest round count to promise. With a bore laser, you get the dot close before you fire a shot. Without one, you start at 5 yards so every shot lands on paper. Either way, you then shoot groups of 5 from a rest at your zero distance, adjust from the center of each group until it lands on your point of aim, and confirm with one more group from the rest and one standing. Bring at least 50 rounds of the same ammo — more if you're zeroing without a bore laser. If your groups stay wide, Module 4 covers the shooter errors behind that.
Does this work for concealed carry guns?
Yes. The course has a specific recommendation for carry pistols (12.5-yard zero) and explains the reasoning behind it. If you carry for self-defense, this course was made for you.
What format is the course in?
The course is a comprehensive written guide with 6 modules, 25 lessons, and 4 printable worksheets. You can read it at home, then bring the worksheets to the range.
